The Strauss Suzuki Violin Studio offers individual Suzuki violin lessons to children and adults in the St. Louis, Missouri area. The home studio is located in University City, Missouri. The Studio also offers Skype-based lessons for those unable to access in-person lessons. The goal of the Suzuki teaching program is to create a love for music and to allow the student to experience the joy of making music and the thrill of gaining proficiency in playing the violin.
I rely extensively on the Suzuki Violin method, the most widely used systematic approach to violin teaching in the US and throughout the world. The Suzuki method is a “building block” approach. Each Suzuki piece is designed both to introduce new skills and constantly reinforce previously-acquired skills.
The Suzuki repertoire and teaching method are designed to encourage the necessary practice, show students how to make practice rewarding, and instill a love for playing music that will last a lifetime. Perhaps the greatest contribution of this method was to show that playing and practicing need not be arduous. Quite the opposite, this method encourages continued commitment by making lessons and practice fun and rewarding.
The commitment to learning to play a musical instrument is one of the greatest investments a person can make. For children, it sets them on a course that significantly increases the quality of life, teaches self-discipline, increases self-esteem, allows them to work effectively in groups, and provides them with skills that will give them a lifetime opportunity to make music!
