Age Group:
Violin lessons are offered to students ages 4 and up, depending on individual readiness
Lesson Lengths:
Students will be assigned a lesson length, either 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on age and level determined by the teacher. Typically beginning students (through Book 1) require a 30 minute lesson.
Payment:
Fees are due the first lesson of each month. Acceptable forms of payment include cash and check, made out to Peter Strauss. Please see Professional Fees page for current rates.
Lesson Procedure:
For young students, a parent must attend every lesson. I will provide the parent(s) with a lesson goals outline at each lesson, stating the specific goals to be accomplished at that lesson. At the end of each lesson, I will provide the parent with a practice chart with the student’s practice assignments for the following week. During the lesson the parent is required to actively take notes.
Parental involvement is essential because the parent will serve as the teacher at home. As such, the parent must understand all techniques. Parents of beginning students will actually learn specific violin techniques along with the students so that they can thoroughly understand the skills being addressed.
Siblings are allowed in the Studio during lessons. At times, siblings can even be included in the teaching process. However, typically, they need to be instructed to be seen but not heard. It is important that the student be the focus of attention. If siblings must attend lessons, they should not be a distraction. Therefore, please bring books, homework, or quiet toys for them. Siblings must be attended by the parent at all times.
Please do not attend if you or your child is ill. Make up lessons will be offered for illnesses if possible. The Studio requires a minimum of 7 days advance notice if you and your child are unable to attend the lesson for reasons other than illness. We will make up those lessons at mutually available times. If notice is not received within this time frame, the scheduled lesson will incur the usual professional fee. Similarly, there will be occasions when the teacher will be unavailable due to travel commitments. While these instances are infrequent, we will provide you with at least 7 days’ notice and we will re-schedule at a mutually convenient time. Payment is due at the begining of each month.
